Grand Prix for the Briton, Polish Champion takes the lead – the second stage of Perlage CAVALIADA Tour is now history
The second stage of the Perlage CAVALIADA Tour in Poznań is now behind us. Over four days of competition, more than 340 riders from 33 countries, riding 612 horses, galloped through the arenas in two halls of Poznań International Fair. We summarize the most important events from Poznań and take a look at the current standings in each category.
Perlage CAVALIADA Tour
In Friday’s 3rd stage of Perlage CAVALIADA Tour, for the prize of Raitech and under the patronage of the Polish Equestrian Federation, 76 pairs competed. Thirteen qualified for the jump-off, and victory went to the Polish Champion and rider of the Greater Poland club Wechta Rosnówko — Maksymilian Wechta with the 13-year-old gelding Mystique.
Fot. Kamila Tworkowska“I feel fantastic. The field of riders in the jump-off was strong and also everyone was very fast,” – said the winner. – “I knew I had to give it my all. (…) I’m ‘at home’ here – I sleep in my own house, and i live 20 minutes from the showgrounds. That’s a big advantage because sometimes I can mentally detach from the competition atmosphere. But it is also extra pressure because my family and friends are cheering for me in the stands – but it’s positive pressure.”
Second place went to Mans Thijssen from the Netherlands with Looking For You, and third to Carl-Walter Fox from Sweden on EKA First Navy Jack.
Sunday’s Perlage CAVALIADA Tour Grand Prix, for the prize of Perlage and under the patronage of the Mayor of Poznań, saw 55 pairs on the start list. Course designer Andrea Colombo set a technical track requiring concentration and precision, and only 5 riders managed to go clear. The final victory went to the 25-year-old Jodie Hall McAteer from Great Britain on the exceptional 10-year-old stallion Key West.
Fot. Dava Palej„I’m over the moon. My horse jumped unbelievable, and it’s a great feeling to win here today.” – said the winner – „There was a lot of fast riders in the jump-off, the first one was also quick. Key West is naturally very careful, so I can just keep riding forwards – he’s just amazing. (…) I’ve had a great weekend, it’s my first time here, the show is amazing and the atmosphere is really special.”
Second place went to Oleksandr Prodan from Ukraine with Moneymaker van’t Meulenhof. Third was Hessel Hoekstra from the Netherlands ridng Comthago VDL. The next two places went to Polish riders who also scored double clears: Przemysław Konopacki with Pure Pasion From Second Life Z and Michał Ziębicki riding Balou’s Batman.
After four stages, Maksymilian Wechta leads the Perlage CAVALIADA Tour ranking with 36 points, ahead of Marek Lewicki (31) and Péter Szuhai from Hungary with 29.

Spectators witnessed an intense battle among eventing competitors. In Thursday’s competition for the prize of Grupa MTP, the ever fast Jakub Wiraszka won on the 18-year-old Corrnero after being absent in Warsaw. In Friday’s competition, for the prize of Poznań-Ławica Airport and Rainbow’s King of Exotic, victory went to the 2022 European Junior Champion Mathies Rüder from Germany on Poynstown Porsch.
Fot. Marta Flatow„I’m very happy. I think it’s the first time I manager to win against Michael Jung.” – said the winner – „My horse was great today, he really played with me, he was really fast in the second round and it was a lot of fun. The fans are amazing here at CAVALIADA, it’s really great to ride in front of such a supportive crowd.”
After dominating the Warsaw opening stages, Michael Jung, the three-time and current Olympic champion, had to settle for two second-place finishes here riding polish-bred Safran. He still leads the ranking with 45 points. Rüder is second (38), and Joanna Pawlak third (35).
Apart Dressage Tour
Both the Thursday competition and Saturday’s Freestyle were won by Justina Vanagaite-Samuile of Lithuania, a Paris Olympian, on Fedon.
Fot. Marta Flatow„I am very proud of Fedon of how he handled the test in such a spectacular arena with an amazing audience. He feels safer and safer with each round. I love people and I always try to please my audience at a show, and hopefully they love me too!” – said the rider.
Vanagaite-Samuile leads the ranking with a perfect 36 points. Second is Viktorija Kundrotaite (21), and in third place with 19 points each are Ilona Janas, Marcin Woldański, and Helene Stenshoj Vitkauskas from Denmark.
CAVALIADA Driving Tour
This category is particularly interesting because each stage so far has been won by a different driver. On Saturday, in the class for the prize of Poznań-Ławica Airport and Anex Tour under the patronage of the National Support Centre for Agriculture, 17-year-old Bartosz Klupś claimed his first victory of the Tour. His groom was Kacper Mosiek, and the horses were Koczis and Kros-GJ.
“We’ve been preparing for this win for a year. We placed second or third a few times, but today we finally did it!” said Bartosz Klupś. “The horses performed great; I can’t imagine them being in better shape than they were in today. I hope we can keep this up and that they’ll be just as well-prepared for every competition.”
Fot. Dava Palej“The CAVALIADA audience really makes a difference; without them, it would be tough to win. We’re happy that it finally worked out. We’re from Greater Poland, so we’re winning ‘at home’ and we’ll keep on fighting!” added groom Kacper Mosiek.
In Sunday’s competition for the prize of A!W Forged, the win went to Aleksander Fularczyk, the current Polish Champion in pairs driving and last year’s Tour winner. His groom was Patryk Lejk, and the horses were Czad and Fetysz.
“I try to be brave and approach my rounds with confidence,” said Fularczyk. “We had one knockdown, but I’m very satisfied with the horses – it was a big challenge for them. I’m not competing here with my main horses, which are resting after a successful season, and with the new horses we managed to get to very satisfying results in a short time. What will surely please the fans is that Nuta and Neptun are coming back to compete at the event in Łódź.”
“This is an incredible experience for me; I’ve fallen in love with this sport. I’m here also to motivate Olek and not to put any unnecessary pressure on him. Today we managed to win, and we’re getting back on the right track,” said Patryk Lejk.
After stage IV, the leader is Bartosz Klupś with 30 points. Rafał Paszyński and Jaroslav Juran share second with 28 points each.
After Warsaw and Poznań, the Perlage CAVALIADA Tour now moves for the first time to Łódź, where stage III will be held in Atlas Arena from January 29 to February 1.
